Research teams across the state are developing and discovering improvements in diagnosing and treating cancer. The remarkable expertise of Arizona’s bioscience and health care community is at the forefront of global medical advancement.
Clinical research conducted by the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale has led to a breakthrough treatment for aggressive forms of breast cancer and pancreatic cancer that tricks the immune system into attacking tumors.
Backed by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in partnership with the FDA, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the PKD Foundation and other industry and nonprofit partners, C-Path is working to develop data standards around emerging drugs and to create databases for clinical trial data.
TGen (Translational Genomics Research Institute) is an Arizona-based, nonprofit medical research institute which is a leader in applying genomic analysis and bioinformatics to cancer drug development and in developing precision treatments for common and complex diseases, including cancer, neurological disorders, infectious disease, and rare childhood disorders.
The Arizona Alzheimer’s Consortium, a nonprofit organization, is a model of statewide collaboration in Alzheimer’s disease research and one of the most productive Alzheimer’s disease research programs in the world. The consortium, through more than 4,000 publications and 1,000 research grants, have proposed new Alzheimer’s treatments as well as supported research through data-sharing and collaboration.
In 2016 PCH launched Cancer MoonShot 2020, which is a coalition of private and public partners working to enhance pediatric cancer treatments.
