OptumRX Expands Operations in Southern Arizona
Company’s move to the state creates jobs, provides capital investment
PHOENIX, AZ (March 22, 2012) — The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) welcomes OptumRX, a division of United Health Care, to Tucson. The company, which provides a range of pharmacy services aimed at reducing health care costs and improving health, will open a customer service facility in Tucson. The expansion will create 400 quality jobs by the end of 2013. The new center will process mail-order prescriptions and administer claims.
“United Healthcare and OptumRX are national leaders when it comes to innovating improvements in patient health and driving down the cost of care,” said Governor Jan Brewer. “I’m proud these companies have chosen to invest in Arizona and bring hundreds of high-caliber, new jobs to our citizens.”
“The ACA is proud to welcome OptumRX to southern Arizona,” said Don Cardon, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “OptumRX could have chosen any state in the country for their new facility, and ultimately, they noticed the incredible benefits of doing business in Arizona. The opening of this facility – which will process prescription orders – is a great link with the University of Arizona’s College of Pharmacy. Four hundred of our citizens will now benefit from new, high-quality jobs in the southern part of our state.”
OptumRX is currently the fourth-largest pharmacy benefits manager in the United States. The company processes nearly 370 million adjusted retail, mail service and specialty drug prescriptions each year. In addition, Optum RX maintains a national network of nearly 66,000 retail pharmacies. OptumRX’s parent company, United Health Care, is already a valued employer in Arizona, employing 2,200 Arizonans and accounting for more than $145 million in revenue for the state in 2011.
ACA provided funding from the Arizona Competes Fund to OptumRX. In addition, the company may be eligible to apply for reimbursements from the Job Training Program.
