Arizona Commerce Authority Announces Second Round Recipients of its Annual Rural Economic Development Grant

 

PHOENIX, AZ (April 22, 2014) — The Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA) today announced that Mohave County, City of Nogales, City of Globe and Yuma County are recipients of its annual Rural Economic Development Grant (REDG), a competitive grant program focused on improving infrastructure that will attract high-wage industry to Arizona’s rural communities.

 

In total, REDG second-round recipient communities will use grant funding for infrastructure projects that have three-year projected outcomes of: 4,916 new jobs, 3,090 retained jobs, and capital investment of more than $173 million.

 

“Rural grants promote collaboration between private sector businesses and rural communities to leverage capital investment for planned infrastructure projects that are vital to continued growth in these areas,” said Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority. “Improving infrastructure in our rural communities addresses base-industry employer needs, while strengthening the long-term capacity and competitiveness of local economies throughout our state.”

 

REDG Recipient Communities/Projects:

  • Mohave County – Griffith Industrial Park: upgrades and expansion of the I-40 Industrial Corridor water system to support existing businesses, business-expansion efforts and new job opportunities in the 2,000-acre corridor. The I-40 corridor is a high truck-traffic corridor that connects to U.S. 93 in the City of Kingman.
  • City of Nogales – Extreme West Pressure Zone Water Tank: increasing water capacity to an industrial area near the Mariposa Port of Entry. The Extreme West Pressure Zone is an area designed primarily for industrial and commercial uses, and is where much of the city’s future growth is expected to take place.
  • City of Globe – Sewer Line Infrastructure: extension of a sewer line to an industrial complex in the northeastern part of the city. The infrastructure will support new commercial and residential development.
  • Yuma County – Magrino Industrial Park Road: construction of the access road to the Magrino Industrial Park, a 240-acre area adjacent to the San Luis II International Port of Entry. The infrastructure will be used to provide access to developable sites within the industrial park and to attract industry to Yuma County.

Now in its fourth year, the Rural Economic Grant Development program awards $3 million annually to eligible rural communities and Native American tribes that demonstrate the most immediate potential to create new quality jobs, retain existing quality jobs and stimulate private capital investment.
