Arizona Grant Awardees to be Featured in Fall Report to Congress

 

PHOENIX, AZ (July 5, 2011) — This week, the Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration (ETA) will be sending a reporter to Arizona to gather success stories and photographs to be published in a document for Congress this fall. The companies featured will be those who have successfully participated in the State Energy Partnership Grant (SESP).

 

Arizona was awarded the SESP grant totaling $6 million by the Department of Labor to develop a statewide strategy for integrating the workforce needs of targeted green energy industries of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Arizona with education and training. The grant funds were made available by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and end on January 28, 2013.

 

The Energy Efficiency industry includes green construction, energy-efficient building, retrofit industries, and solar water heating, as well as an energy efficient assessment industry that will serve residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. Renewable Energy includes the electric power industry, including Smart Grid, solar, thermal power, electric vehicle, nuclear, water harvesting and soil reclamation.

 

Arizona was chosen for this site visit from among hundreds of ARRA grantees nationwide. The selection was based on the state’s performance measures, quarterly reports and recommendations from Federal Project Officers, Arizona was chosen along with California.

 

The following companies will receive visits from ETA and will be featured in the report:

  • Arizona Public Service – Phoenix
  • NEST Energy Systems – Prescott
  • Coconino Community College – Flagstaff
  • Laron Engineering – Kingman
