TSMC Arizona and U.S. Department of Commerce Announce Up To $6.6 Billion In Proposed CHIPS Act Direct Funding

PHOENIX, AZ (April 8, 2024) – TSMC announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce and TSMC Arizona have signed preliminary terms for up to $6.6 billion in direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. TSMC also announced plans to build a third fab at TSMC Arizona, leveraging the most advanced semiconductor process technology in the United States, bringing TSMC’s total investment to more than $65 billion and creating 6,000 new jobs.

Governor Hobbs Announces New Battery-Focused Future48 Workforce Accelerator In Pinal County

PHOENIX, AZ (April 3, 2024) – Arizona’s newest Future48 Workforce Accelerator will launch in Pinal County in support of the region’s growing battery manufacturing industry, Governor Hobbs announced today. Launched in partnership with Pinal County, Central Arizona College, LG Energy Solution, the Arizona Commerce Authority (ACA), McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and others, the Pinal County Accelerator will offer workforce training focused on the manufacturing process of cylindrical lithium-ion batteries, used for electric vehicles and other technology applications.

LG Energy Solution’s $5.5 Billion Stand-Alone Battery Manufacturing Complex In Queen Creek Well Underway

QUEEN CREEK, AZ (April 3, 2024) – The construction of a major battery manufacturing complex in Queen Creek, Arizona, announced by LG Energy Solution last year, is on track to be completed in two years with the first round of hiring expected to begin at the end of this year. The company provided progress updates on its $5.5 billion stand-alone facility during a stakeholder meeting today at Combs High School in San Tan Valley near the complex location. With steel beams now being placed at the site, the complex is on track to be completed in  2026 and creating several thousand new jobs.

Arizona Exports Break New Records

PHOENIX, AZ (April 1, 2024) – Arizona companies exported a record amount of goods in 2023, Governor Hobbs announced in her International State of the State address. Exports grew to $28.79 billion in 2023, a 5.5% increase ($1.5 billion) over the previous year. Arizona’s growth bucks the trend for the U.S., which saw exports decrease by 2.2% in 2023. Arizona’s top export countries in 2023 included Mexico ($8 billion), Canada ($2.7 billion), the Netherlands ($1.7 billion), China ($1.6 billion), and the United Kingdom ($1.4 billion).

Ascent Aviation Services Breaks Ground At Pinal Airpark For Two New Wide-Body Aircraft Hangars In Marana

MARANA, AZ (March 29, 2024) – Ascent Aviation Services, one of the largest independent aircraft aftermarket services providers in the world, broke ground today at Pinal Airpark in Marana, Arizona, on two new wide-body aircraft hangars to establish a North American conversion site to carry out passenger-to-freighter conversions and heavy maintenance. Representing a capital investment of $55 million, the site will support more than 300 new aviation jobs. Upon completion, the Marana operation will convert two lines of Boeing B777-300ER aircraft for Israel Aerospace Industries. 

Intel and U.S. Department of Commerce Announce $8.5 Billion In Proposed Direct Funding Through The CHIPS Act

CHANDLER, AZ (March 20, 2024) — The Biden-Harris Administration announced that Intel and the U.S. Department of Commerce have signed a preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT) for up to $8.5 billion in direct funding to Intel for commercial semiconductor projects under the CHIPS and Science Act. The proposed funding would help advance Intel’s semiconductor manufacturing and research and development projects at its sites in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio and Oregon. The CHIPS Act funding will support Intel’s $34.5 billion investment in Arizona to date, supporting an additional 3,000 new jobs

FrameTec Announces Construction Of Building Component Manufacturing Facility In Casa Grande

CASA GRANDE, AZ (March 13, 2024) – FrameTec, a pioneering building component manufacturing plant and building framing services company, announced today plans to build a truss and wall panel manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. Representing a $150 million capital investment, the new facility will consist of two plant buildings, with the first phase of construction commencing in Summer 2024. The first plant is expected to be operational in 2026 followed by the second plant in 2027 and create over 400 total new jobs.

Freepoint Eco-Systems To Construct Advanced Recycling Facility In Eloy

ELOY, AZ (September 20, 2023) – Freepoint Eco-Systems LLC ("Freepoint") announced the development of a commercial-scale advanced plastics recycling facility located in Eloy, Arizona. The ISCC Plus Certified facility will recycle end-of-life waste plastic otherwise destined for landfills or incineration. BUCKEYE, AZ (July 20, 2023) – Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) has made its first major move in the United States following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, investing $24 million to acquire a 100 percent interest in Phoenix Hydrogen Hub, LLC (PHH). PHH is developing a proposed green hydrogen project located  Buckeye, Arizona. Phase One of the PHH project will be capable of producing up to 12,000 tonnes of liquified green hydrogen annually, which can displace the equivalent of 10 million gallons of diesel consumption per year.

Governor Ducey, TSMC Mark Major Milestone at the Most Technologically Advanced Chip Factory in the U.S.

PHOENIX, AZ (December 6, 2022) — Governor Doug Ducey and TSMC celebrated the first piece of equipment added to one of the most technologically advanced chip factories in the world. If the years-long effort to bring the high-tech chip manufacturing operation to Arizona wasn’t already the “deal of the decade,” TSMC’s announcement that it would add a second fab, invest a total of $40 billion and create 4,500 jobs at its Arizona operations certainly seals the deal. The facility will utilize TSMC’s 4-nanometer technology for semiconductor wafer fabrication. The second, newly announced fab, will be equipped for 3 nanometer production by 2026. American Battery Factory Selects Tucson As Site For Its First Battery Cell Gigafactory In United States

TUCSON, AZ (December 6, 2022) — Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and Paul Charles, President and CEO of American Battery Factory (ABF), today announced that Tucson, Arizona has been selected as the site for the first in a planned series of battery cell gigafactories based in the United States. Nucor Announces $100 Million Steel Production Facility Expansion In Kingman

Arizona Commerce Authority Announces $100 Million In Broadband Grants
