LG Energy Solution’s battery manufacturing complex marks the largest single investment for a stand-alone battery manufacturing facility in the U.S. and will consist of two facilities – one for cylindrical batteries for electric vehicles, the first of its kind in the U.S.
The two-million-square-foot site will be the largest Gigafactory in the U.S. for the production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells and will serve as American Battery Factory’s official headquarters.
The first-of-its-kind facility in the U.S. is expected to produce approximately 33,000 metric tons of EV battery grade cobalt sulfate per year, enough to support the domestic production of approximately 470,000 EVs each year.
